Home Group Sermon Series - 2011
Living According to The Lord's Prayer
All of us have prayed the Lord’s prayer on many occasions, but what does it mean to live according to the Lord’s prayer? During the autumn, in our Home Groups, we examined the relevance of the Lord’s prayer to our life and faith and reminded ourselves that prayer should always be the starting point in everything we undertake as Christians. If ever there was a time when we need new confidence and renewed commitment in our personal and corporate prayer life it is now - especially as we entered an exciting new season of mission and ministry at Emmanuel.
Paul’s Second Letter to the Thessalonians
The themes for this series are self-explanatory, however, because of the strategic importance of the Thessalonian Church it was inevitable that the kingdom of Satan would attempt to assert itself. The same could be said to be true of us here at Emmanuel. If ever there was a time when we need a new confidence in the Good News of Jesus, it is now. In seeking after this, it is vital that we ‘cry out’ to God to act; and ask that His power fill and enable us, his people, for mission and ministry. As we do so, it is important that: we do not give in too easily or give up too quickly!

Growing The Church
Based around the opening chapters of the Book of Acts - stories which depict the church as it was before the great missionary journeys of Paul. The church in Acts is not too unlike the church of today, with its difficulties and dilemmas and we will be looking at the church in Jerusalem, at the time of Pentecost and afterwards, as it struggled with potentially divisive issues and a lack of resources. We saw how the church prepared for mission and developed methods for embracing the changes and challenges it encountered as it sought to reach its full potential in building the kingdom of God. Ultimately, church growth is the work of God, but we are all invited to play our part in building up His kingdom in today’s world.
