This summer, in our Home Groups, we studed the Apostle Paul’s Second Letter to the Thessalonians (revisiting this book after our series on First Thessalonians in the autumn of 2008). The themes for this series are self-explanatory, however, because of the strategic importance of the Thessalonian Church it was inevitable that the kingdom of Satan would attempt to assert itself. The same could be said to be true of us here at Emmanuel. If ever there was a time when we need a new confidence in the Good News of Jesus, it is now. In seeking after this, it is vital that we ‘cry out’ to God to act; and ask that His power fill and enable us, his people, for mission and ministry. As we do so, it is important that: we do not give in too easily or give up too quickly!
This series of studies, supplementing our preaching on a Sunday morning, gave plenty of ‘food for thought’ as we continued to discern God’s future vision for us here at Emmanuel. As we wrestle with God’s word, it both challenged and strengthened our faith, as we allowed His Spirit to shape our lives.
