In the autumn of 2010 we begin a ‘School of Theology’ on the second Sunday evening of the month at 7.00pm following a series of studies entitled: ‘Knowing Your Spiritual Gifts’ (which will take us through to July 2011). But what are the ‘Spiritual gifts’ which our heavenly Father wants to give to his children? And why? The New Testament highlights over twenty seven (though we should never attempt to limit God in this way), however, during this series, we’re going to focus on the charismata or grace-gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10. There are two reasons why we are going to concentrate on this nine-fold manifestation: one has to do with the fact that, since the early 1990’s, there has been a tremendous increase of Biblical scholarship in Charismatic and Renewal Theology which recognises that the use of Spiritual Gifts has been dictated by experience rather than by exegesis (Biblical interpretation). Another reason for embarking on this series is an attempt to understand, from a Biblical perspective, some of the current emphases in contemporary Charismatic Spirituality.
These evenings will be a mixture of Theology and Practise and are aimed at those who want to know more about Spiritual Gifts; along with those who wish to develop, and strengthen, the Spiritual Gifts they already have. It is a series which is sure to have a strategic impact on the ongoing Mission and Ministry of our church.
