Jesus was and is a Jew and most of the New Testament was written by Jews. Western Christians often fail to get a good mental picture of the “real Jesus” and find parts of the Scriptures unnecessarily difficult to understand.
Kesher is a Hebrew word meaning connection. The Kesher course is being run as a Lent course this year to show how you are connected to the Jewish roots of your faith. Each of the six sessions includes teaching and a short word study looking at the root meanings of important Hebrew words such as Hallelujah, Torah and Kadosh.
The Kesher course aims in an informal atmosphere to
- enrich your understanding of Jesus and the Bible,
- deepen your trust in God's faithfulness
- give you a better understanding of current events in the Middle East
The six sessions will be held in St Mary Magdalen on Monday evenings from 8pm
15th February: The Jewishness of Jesus 22nd February: Jesus the Rabbi 1st March: Jesus the Messiah 8th March: Salvation is from the Jews 15th March: The Great Divide 22nd March: Physical Restoration and Rebirth of Israel
There are many causes for celebrations and festivals during the Jewish year where food assumes a central role - Passover, Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) or Bar mitzvah - all are celebrated with eating and drinking. So because food plays a vital part of the Jewish cultural and religious tradition there will be different examples of Jewish food for you to taste during the course.
