During the spring, in our Home Groups, we will be studying the Old Testament book of Ruth. A book that was written during the period of the judges. It was a time of moral chaos and national humiliation for Israel. Judges 17:6 tells us: “There was no king in Israel; and every man did what was right in his own eyes.” It was a time of division, cruelty, apostasy, civil war and national disgrace. Further, we're told that famine struck that was to last for ten years. It seems incredible that this beautiful love story could take place at the lowest point in Israel’s history. However, it is not just a love story between Ruth and Boaz but a love story between God and the world he created.
This love story reveals the providence of God in the way He guided Ruth; it encourages us to know that God still cares for us even if we feel bitter towards Him; it demonstrates God’s work of salvation; and illustrates the believers deepening relationship with Him. It covers a wide range of emotions and issues, which, will touch every heart (male and female alike) with its timely message.
This series of studies, supplementing our preaching on a Sunday morning, will give plenty of ‘food for thought’ as we continue to discern God’s future vision for us here at Emmanuel. As we wrestle with God’s word it will challenge us and strengthen our faith as we allow His Spirit to shape our lives.
Our Home Group Sunday sermons will usually be preached on the 2nd and 4th Sunday’s (with a couple of small changes to accommodate ‘Mothering Sunday’ and ‘Palm Sunday’). Full sermon and discussion notes will be provided both in church, and via our website, and all sermons will be recorded:
